Leviticus 20:26

26You shall be holy to me, for I, Yahweh, am holy, and have set you apart from the peoples, that you should be mine.

Devotional

God’s not trying to get us into heaven; he’s bringing heaven to earth. We aren’t going up; heaven is coming down! We are created in his image to thrive on earth. In Jesus Christ, God comes to this planet clothed like one of its citizens. He will remain fully God and fully human throughout eternity. God is not calling us to be holy to make us good; he’s calling us to be like him so he can have an eternal, love relationship with us. It’s not comfortable dwelling with someone who follows a different path and moral code. God’s call to be holy is a divine invitation to love: “Let’s walk hand in hand, heart, to heart! Let’s live together! Let’s celebrate love for the rest of our eternal existence. Join me on the path I travel; it’s called the ‘Highway of Holiness’ (Isaiah 35:8). “Be holy, because I am holy” (1 Peter 1:16)!

Father, help me live a life worthy of your presence in me and upon me! May my life give glory to you and be pleasing in your sight. Help me to seek the beauty of holiness, and to recognise your face looking back at me when I look into the mirror. Amen.
