Psalm 27:14

14Wait for Yahweh.

Be strong, and let your heart take courage.

Yes, wait for Yahweh.

Devotional

In this psalm, David praises all that God has meant to him, light, fortress, salvation and  protection. That gave him courage to believe that God would answer this prayer he was praying. If God had been all that to him in the past, and David could say that he was just as earnest in seeking God as he had ever been, then he knew God would be the same today.

When we find ourselves in what appears to be an impossible situation, when we can't see any way out, we must remind ourselves of all that God has done in the past. He is our deliverer, He is our light in the darkness, the Saviour of our soul, He is strength when we are weak, our protecter from our enemies. What a statement that is! If he has been those things to you in the past, then trust that He will the same to you now? If you think your present situation is too tough for God, your idea of God is too small!

Now comes the hard part; wait for God. If you don't know what to do, then wait. Be strong and let your heart take courage. Do not fear, God is more than able. He is the same faithful God today as He was in the past. Every time your mind tells you the situation is hopeless, look at all God has done in your past and in the Scriptures and take courage.

Waiting is difficult because our old nature is faithless and self-reliant. Waiting shows that we trust God to answer prayer. It shows our confidence in Him.
