Devotional

Everything we have is a gift from God. Even our weaknesses serve to draw us to Him and to reflect on what is of true value. If we can grasp this, then our lives will be filled with thanksgiving. It will overflow into all aspects of our lives, bringing a sense of gratitude to all that we have and do.

Unfortunately, Israel exemplified the opposite of this in the wilderness. That is why they were so often encouraged to recount what God had done for them. In the face of our trials it can be very easy for us to forget all that we have been blessed with and the amazing things God has done for us in our past.

Later in Psalm 9, David tells us to sing praises to the Lord. When we think of all His goodness to us, it should cause us to burst into songs of praise. In the same verse (Psalm 9:11), we are told to tell others what He has done, to share your testimony of God's goodness and the transformation in your life. It also keeps us mindful of God’s love, Grace and Mercy to us and how we too should show the same compassion to those we interact with. That helps us interpret our present struggles in a positive light, knowing God will use it for our good.

Take some time right now to recount the wonderful deeds of God in your life, and then give thanks with your whole heart.
